Overpowering in smell, and only slightly more subtle in its taste - however it's the texture which stands out most, for me. Quite a departure from what I've been used to, especially from smoked cheeses: it wouldn't be unfair to call this one quite waxy. Nevertheless I think it works marvelously as a standalone cheese on plain crackers, or with an equally strong marmalade to back it up.
